By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:

-Explain four techniques to aid in simple play for toddlers and preschoolers.
-Explain the five parts to playing with others.
-Explain three of the six steps to encouraging a child to talk.
-Explain the two parts to floor-time as a family approach.
-Explain the rationale behind using social story interventions.
-Explain the goal of AAC interventions.
-Explain the type of stimulation that later predicts children’s cognitive competence.
-Explain why many autistic children don’t respond to verbal requests but respond to touch.
-Explain the difference between a transparent and opaque symbol in iconicity.
